coffee|culture is a series of creative talks set to occupy a selection of Dublin’s best speciality cafés on one morning per month. Each venue is significant for its commendation on the Dublin City Coffee Map created by First Draft Coffee, presenting a snapshot of a truly vibrant and bustling coffee scene of over 30 cafés, each offering something unique and beautiful to Dublin’s fair city.
Talks have been designed to offer a heady dose of inspiration before the work day begins ranging in theme from architecture to food writing, set-design to performance art and everything in between. Speakers have been curated for their contribution to Ireland’s cultural landscape and their motivation for creating innovative work in challenging times.
Our inaugural event presented, Darragh Breathnach of DUA Architects. Darragh an Irish architect who combines his material led craft with a holistic approach to design. He founded DUA in 2015, and has since gone on to create an impressive portfolio of work including furniture and product design, as well as cultural, residential and commercial buildings. DUA have won numerous awards from the RIAI for their innovations in space design.
This event took place in Meet Me In The Morning, voted Ireland’s best café at the 2017 Restaurant Awards, MMITM is a small but perfectly formed initiative run by Brewer’s Cup champion Brian O’ Keefe and Gruel Guerrilla chef Kevin Powell. The café offers local and seasonal fare presented in a way that gives centre stage to independent Irish producers.
Coffee|Culture launched to coincide with Open House Dublin 2017. Open House Dublin (OHD) is Ireland’s largest architecture festival, inviting all citizens to explore their city. It works through a simple but powerful idea: showcasing outstanding architecture for everyone to experience. Buildings that aren’t usually accessible to the public and buildings of architectural merit open their doors for one weekend, with architectural tours provided by expert guides.
